The Lord is faithful in the big and small

April and May looked like small group, English class, academic reinforcement at IB Emaus, Easter event for children, a youth day in the north, and a SENT team visiting the northern region, youth Saturday, a visit from Tim & Kallie Hutton, and more…

As you would have read in previous updates, one the projects where CBM and IBAREDO are partnering is through academic reinforcement in 6 local churches. I have the privilege of helping at one of them on a weekly basis. What I have loved seeing is the difference consistency makes in forming relationships. I get to see my relationship develop with this group of kids as they see me weekly and most Sunday mornings. It is easy underestimate the power that showing up can have in the lives of others and in our own lives too. I learn just as much, or more, from these kids every week as they do from me.

In May, I had a visit from Tim, Kallie, and Malena Hutton who are CBM’s Global Staff based in Bolivia. It was great to have a few days to show them a part of my life here in the DR, introduce them to a few people in IBAREDO, and just be able to talk and share our experiences. As always, we held out monthly Youth Saturday event at Emaus. This month was special as one of the youth Milena gave the message and it was her first time sharing from God’s word in this way. I love getting to watch as these young adults step up and take risks. To see them try new things and learn what their strengths and interests are. I had the privilege to be walking with her as she prepared her message, to listen to her ideas, proof read the message, and just be a sounding board. It is a blessing to be able to walk alongside of people and help champion them into all God has created them to be.

Around Easter, the youth from Emaus planned a kids morning for the kids in the community. This was a good morning filled with games, laughs, and learning how Jesus is alive and what that means for us!

Also in the last couple months, I was able to buy a car to drive here in the DR. This has been a blessing, not only to be able to get places and have it available to be able to use with SENT or when people visit, but to also be able to visit with others in different regions. As I was travelling to the northern region for a SENT team, I was able to take some time to meet up with Nathaniel and Gilsheyla. It was great to be able to have the freedom to go to lunch together instead of relying on JUBAREDO meetings, events, or church to see each other. I hope and pray for more opportunities to be meeting with young adults in different regions as time goes on as a result of this new freedom in driving.

At the end of April, Crandall University’s Claystone program came to the DR as a part of our SENT program. We were able to spend 2 weeks in the northern region learning, making connections, serving, and having fun. A love seeing the connections that are made during these experiences. These are obviously only a few snapshots of their time and there are so many stories that could be told from this experience. Some of the things we were able to do was children’s ministry, helping with construction at two homes, painting, helping to fix a local basketball court, youth event, church services, splitting the group and eating in different homes in the community, hear stories, and so much more…

During my time in the north, I was able to teach a workshop for the youth leaders. This was the same workshop I had the chance to teach in March in the region Ozama. It was a much shorter workshop (as we made time during a youth event to have it) but I pray that the conversations and information where useful for these leaders as they serve in their local churches.

One of the blessings that often comes when we have SENT teams in the ability for JUBAREDO to host a regional youth gathering. We were able to gather youth from 4 different churches for a day of fun, learning, and worshiping together.

Earlier this year, I had the chance to have a chat with Pastor Craig from Woodstock Baptist Church in New Brunswick. In case you’d like to hear our conversation you can click on this link.
